Obituary

Mary Shamblin, 88, of Point Enterprise, passed away on September 8, 2019 at her residence. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Point Enterprise Cemetery with Ray Jones officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Murphey, John Murphey, Cory Shamblin, Bruce Tucker, James Tucker, Danny Beldin and Brandon Allen. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandsons.

Mrs. Shamblin was born on December 14, 1930 in Mexia, Texas to Harmon & Viva Kennedy Taylor. She was a retired supervisor from the Mexia State Supported Living Center. “Grandma”, as she was affectionately known, loved her family, and loved cooking for and hosting the huge gatherings and holiday celebrations. She was an avid seamstress and excellent at crocheting, enjoyed canning the produce from the family garden, and she loved mowing the lawn.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (Pookie) Shamblin; daughter, Doris Dale Shamblin; parents, Harmon & Viva Taylor and siblings, Eunice Lane, J.W. Taylor and Genia Campbell. She is survived by her children, James David Shamblin (Barbara) of Mexia, Darlene Archer (Jerry) of Mexia, Donna Kay Shamblin of Mexia and Cheryl Dee Tucker (David) of Mexia; grandchildren, Robert Murphey (Laurie), John Murphey (Angelle), Megan Beldin (Danny), Jami Archer, Keri Allen (Brandon), Cory Shamblin (Jessica), Bruce Tucker (Kensey) and James Tucker (Michelle); twenty three great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; family friend, Gail Williams and her family; Caregiver Hazel Holly; as well as her faithful companion & friend, Rocky.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Shamblin’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Point Enterprise Memorial Fund.
