John T. Burleson, 75 of Dew, passed away on February 25, 2024 at UT Health Hospital in Tyler, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Jeffrey Rollo, officiating. Interment will follow at Old Town Cemetery in Mt. Calm. Family visitation will be held prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m.
John was born on March 19, 1948 in Pasadena, Texas to Tee Moses & Frances Myrtle Holmes. He graduated from Pasadena High School, and afterwards, served his country in the U.S. Army. After serving his country, he went to work for Houston Light & Power, the Mexia State School, Nucor and then Kent Phillips Pumping. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing (especially with his grandkids, whom he taught all to fish). Fishing was his big passion. Many may not know, but John had a singing voice and loved to sing, singing at many special occasions, including the weddings of family members. He especially loved his family and his grandkids were very important.
Mr. Burleson was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn Rains and brother, Frank Burleson. Surviving him are his wife, Debbie Burleson of Dew, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Phillips and husband, Kent of Dew; son, John Michael Burleson and wife, Haley of Lovelady, Texas; grandchildren, Cullen Phillips and fiancé, Courtney, Rowdy Phillips, Boots Burleson and Cash Burleson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Serving as pallbearers are Terry Howell, Michael Howell, Lonnie Beldin, Jeff Vest, David Bates, Harvey Lane and Steve Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons, Cullen Phillips, Rowdy Phillips, Boots Burleson and Cash Burleson.
